Partners Pilot Creative Playa Conservation Tactics

PLJV partners in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico are trying out a variety of tactics to engage landowners and USDA field staff in a quest for increased playa conservation. Playa Exhibit and Photos at the Wildlife Experience

Starting June 16, the traveling playa exhibit, Playas: Gems of the Plains will be on display at the Wildlife Experience museum in Denver. Along with the exhibit will be a collection of playa images by nature photographer Brian Slobe who captured the beauty of the wetlands in the Texas Panhandle the summer of 2005. (MORE…)

    Featured Project: Lower South Platte Wetland Initiative

    This Small NAWCA project involved the restoration, acquisition and long-term management of 500 acres of wetlands and 1,100 acres of uplands along the lower South Platte River. The Lower South Platte River corridor provides important migratory and nesting habitat for hundreds of thousands of waterfowl such as Northern Pintails, Wood Ducks and Mallards, as well as at-risk species such as Piping Plovers and Interior Least Terns.     Follow the Money: New Mexico River Restoration Grants

    The Surface Water Quality Bureau of the New Mexico Environment Department is soliciting proposals for projects that will restore in-stream ecosystem function and watershed health to major NM river basins. Funding available is $2,350,000 and it is anticipated that 5 projects will be awarded grants. Proposals are due June 27. Browse all funding opportunities.

    Ogallala Commons will host a day-long teacher retreat June 19 in Nazareth, Texas, to involve area educators on a plan to make Playa Festivals a year-long learning tool for schools. Browse all upcoming events.
