The Nature Conservancy Buys 6,000-Acre Texas Ranch in Prime Lesser Prairie-Chicken Range

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) of Texas made significant in-roads in the conservation of prairie birds with its purchase of a 6,000-acre ranch in the High Plains of West Texas. The Fitzgerald ranch is adjacent to more than half a million acres of contiguous prairie spanning from Roosevelt County in New Mexico to Terry County, Texas - a veritable habitat haven for Lesser Prairie-Chickens and other prairie birds.     Featured Project: Bird Banding Station in Lamar, CO

    In the spring of 2007, the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory led educational programs and a bird banding station in Lamar, Colorado.     Featured Grant Programs: Texas and Nebraska Wildlife Action Plan Funding

    The Texas Department of Wildlife and Parks is seeking proposals by Dec. 15 to allocate $1,000,000 toward implementing conservation actions under the state's Wildlife Action Plan. Also, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has partnered with the Natural Resources Conservation Service on a special EQIP initiative for the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project created under the state's Wildlife Action Plan.
