PLJV Master Plan

The PLJV drafted a Master Plan in 2002 which is a strategic document that guides the overall direction of the Joint Venture, links to other PLJV plans, and establishes overall measures of achievement. The Plan provides a framework for eight Elements that are essential for a successful and sustainable Joint Venture.

PLJV Elements and Goals

Conservation delivery

Provide an organizational structure and processes that attract, leverage, generate and implement innovative habitat, outreach, research and education projects that support the PLJV implementation plan.

Biological Planning

Determine the quantity, quality and distribution of habitat needed to maintain ecological integrity and bird populations at levels that satisfy socio-economic desires.

Communications

Develop effective communication products and strategies to attract, engage and inform PLJV partners, and raise awareness, change attitudes and increase willingness among landowners and resource managers to conduct playa and other bird habitat conservation.

Funding

Increase funding available to all partners by highlighting the need for more conservation dollars and by opening funding avenues for PLJV partners from existing, new, traditional, and non-traditional financial partners.

Granting

Develop and maintain a fair and efficient program for granting, tracking, and reporting accomplishments of PLJV-granted funds.

Education

Impart knowledge among teachers, students, adults, landowners and managers about playa lakes, other habitats and birds, and increase positive management practices of the natural resources in the PLJV region.

Research

Encourage, facilitate, and coordinate applied research, and disseminate results to increase knowledge of PLJV birds and habitats and to improve planning and conservation practices.

Annual Review

On an annual basis, PLJV personnel will evaluate the PLJV’s progress on all other elements in this Plan.
